Do You Know the Top 3 Health Concerns for Women?

  • Heart disease, cancer and stroke are the three leading health concerns for women.
  • Fertility, mental health and autoimmune illnesses are additional health concerns that specifically affect women.
  • 45.2% of women have high blood pressure or are taking medication for it.

Women are more likely than men to die after a heart attack and are more likely to have a stroke, due to hormone-related medication.

In addition to heart disease, cancer and stroke, there are three health concerns that specifically impact women.

  • Many women experience fertility issues and menstrual health concerns with severe symptoms that can require medical procedures.
  • 20% of American women experience mental health issues triggered by anxiety and stress.
  • Autoimmune illnesses, like Lupus, impact more women than men, which in turn puts women at higher risk for heart disease and other serious conditions.

Along with exercise and eating healthy, many of these threats can be captured and managed with routine care and screening. For many women 50 years of age and older, it is recommended that the following screenings are performed: blood pressure, bone mineral density, breast cancer, cervical cancer, cholesterol, colorectal cancer, diabetes, and HIV.

Schedule an annual, routine care exam with the LIFE Wellness Clinic or your primary care provider to discuss your recommended screenings.
